Chapter 78: Lay Down Your Arms, Do Not Turn Traitor
Eliminating Mondok in his current state was as effortless for Gu Hang as crushing a chick. His psionic abilities could lift Mondok’s entire body into the air; similarly, snapping Mondok’s neck would be no problem at all.
However, Gu Hang did not choose to do so. Instead, he opted for an execution by firearm for the sake of formality.
Gu Hang wanted to use this symbolic method of execution to send a message to all soldiers that their former commander was guilty, a traitor to the Empire. They should, at this moment, completely distance themselves from the traitor and accept the leadership of the Governor.
He also did not plan to immediately utilize all ten thousand soldiers of Revival City. But at the very least, these men could not become an obstacle to his subsequent actions.
If the purge was inevitable, it would start within the military ranks first.
The soldiers gathered around almost all witnessed what happened in the air and heard the Governor’s proclamation.
The general is a traitor? This news was somewhat hard to accept at the moment.
It wasn’t just because Gu Hang said so that the soldiers would really regard Mondok as a traitor and Gu Hang as their commander. After all, they were not very familiar with Gu Hang before this incident, whereas Mondok had been their leader for many years. Many of them were officers promoted by General Mondok.
However, Mondok was now dead.
He died right before their eyes, sentenced as guilty and executed by firing squad.
Their object of loyalty was gone.
Many were left bewildered.
What were they supposed to do next? Avenge the general? This…
For some who were deeply indebted to Mondok, this wasn’t an option off the table. In fact, some did try to do so.
There were officers who attempted to continue inciting their soldiers to attack.
But this didn’t work well.
The core issue was that they couldn’t deny Gu Hang’s identity as a ruler. He was the bona fide Governor. After he executed the general, the remaining soldiers had almost no reason to continue fighting. Merely being incited by officers wasn’t very effective. Only those who were not thinking clearly would pull out their weapons and attempt to attack.
Facing these attacks, Gu Hang remained unmovable in the air.
This was not the time to retreat. He needed to stand there, spreading the proclamation he had made again and again to the soldiers, imprinting his identity deeply into their minds.
As for those who were deluded, their attacks were within Gu Hang’s capacity to handle. His telekinesis was sufficient for him to catch the bullets shot at him within a certain distance and deflect them, unable to hit him. Even if there were a few bullets he couldn’t catch in time, he still had his spiritual aura as a last resort for protection.
If he were to be fired upon by thousands, then without a doubt, Gu Hang would have to flee; but such a scenario did not occur. Only a minority launched attacks at him.
This small number of stubborn individuals was quickly suppressed with force.
The Star Warriors would take action.
The explosive rounds from the Phoenix Battalion’s bolters always managed to precisely eliminate those rebels.
As for those cultists that Gu Hang was concerned about, they posed no threat to him at all.
His earlier suspicions were correct; there were indeed sorcerers from the Original Owl Beast Sect who had infiltrated the ranks of Revival City’s army. After he ascended into the air, these sorcerers began to show themselves, targeting him.
Within the range of his psionic perception, Gu Hang had already detected the presence of these heretical cultists. While they planned to attack Gu Hang with psionic energy, they also tried to incite the surrounding soldiers to continue their assault on Gu Hang.
Trusting the Battle Sisters, Gu Hang did not move.
Sister Superior Gretel and her sisters did not betray Gu Hang’s trust.
The Holy Mercy Lilies, who had been somewhat passive in previous actions, became very active at this moment. The eleven sisters, without needing to communicate, divided into pairs, with Gretel acting alone, forming a total of six groups that charged into the soldiers’ ranks.
Shouting the Emperor’s name, they rooted out those who had revealed their true selves and were preparing to use dark magic to attack Gu Hang.
They were true anti-cult experts, nemeses of all heretics, cultists, and psionic users.
A faint glow appeared on the Holy Mercy Lilies, signaling the arrival of the God Emperor’s blessing. Within a certain range, all hostile psionic and dark magic tactics would be directly obstructed.
Of course, this obstruction had its limits. If the target was too powerful, the dark magic would still be executed. After all, their anti-psionic power stemmed from their divine magic, a blessing from the Emperor. Essentially, when hostile spells took effect, their divine powers would immediately counteract.
However, none of the sorcerers currently present were able to break through the Battle Sisters’ psionic suppression.
With dark magic and psionic attacks nullified, those cultists mingled among the soldiers were easily eradicated.
Seeing the Battle Sisters kill their ‘comrades,’ some soldiers began to resist. Whether it was a reflexive counterattack or genuine incitement by the cultists, the Holy Mercy Lilies showed no mercy and eliminated them all.
These infiltrating cultists did not look much different from ordinary soldiers. The soldiers did not know these were cultists, and some even thought they were being massacred.
To prevent this misunderstanding from escalating the already tense situation into complete chaos, Gu Hang used his psionically amplified voice to once again resonate in the ears of all soldiers:
“Lay down your weapons! Cease resistance! The cultists aiming to destroy Revival City are conspiring. The Battle Sisters are purging the heretics. Lay down your weapons! You will not be implicated! Anyone continuing to hold weapons will be deemed a traitor!”
“Lay down your weapons! Do not become traitors!”
In their bewilderment, a significant number of soldiers eventually stopped resisting.
At this moment, the infantry regiment led by Yan Fangxu also entered the scene.
They cautiously approached the Alliance Corps’ defensive lines, shouting along with the Governor for them to lay down their weapons and cease resistance.
Disarmed soldiers stayed calmly in place; those few who still held weapons, whether resisting or not, were executed.
The Governor acted as a human broadcasting station in mid-air, casting a ‘surrender aura’ over the entire Alliance Corps; the Star Warriors and Battle Sisters purged the stubborn rebels and disarmed the ordinary soldiers from within; the infantry regiment led by Yan Fangxu began disarming from the outside…
The main battle ended here. Most of the Alliance soldiers, having witnessed the general’s execution, the Governor’s personal surrender order, and facing the irresistible Star Warriors and Battle Sisters, chose to surrender.
They no longer wanted to fight.
They couldn’t win, and they had no idea what the point of continuing the battle was. So, why continue fighting?
